Is Your Personality Causing You Stress?

By Valerie Mellema

Everyone experiences stress on a daily basis. It's how you react to your stress that determines whether or not you may become ill from it. It's not hard to become impatient with people or to inadvertently take your frustrations out on others, that's one of the side effects and hazards of being stressed out and everybody does it. However, some people do it more than others and they find themselves causing unnecessary drama in their life.

While some people only cause this stress on occasion, it's not uncommon for people to cause drama in their lives on a regular basis. These people tend to self-sabotage themselves without being aware that they are doing it. In some instances, it's their personality type that causes this unnecessary stress:

Type "A" Personality

Those people who have that ever-so wonderful "Type A" personalities are also those that tend to create a great deal of drama in their lives. That drama quickly and easily turns into stress. They are also the ones that tend to treat others with hostility. If you react to your life with this type of personality, then you are most likely causing your relationships unnecessary emotional stress and this often results in aggressiveness. Although the Type A personality has its benefits, it can have it's downside as well.

Pessimism

If you're a pessimist, you're already doing yourself a disfavor. Those people who are pessimistic tend to see things to be worse than they actually are. These people see the glass as "half-empty" and this causes them to undermine themselves. The outcome of this type of personality tends to be that of poorer health, fewer positive events in life and more negative consequences. The interesting thing about those who are pessimistic, they tend to see themselves as optimists when they really are not.

Taking On Too Much

The person with this type of personality is the typical person who is prone to workplace stress. They are usually overscheduled and overstressed due to the fact that they like to be the ones that do things themselves to ensure that it gets done right. These people may also be Type A personality people as well. If you can't say "no" to more work as well, then you'll typically find yourself having a hard time of balancing your work with the rest of your life. This only ends in chronic stress day in and day out and it won't be long until you begin seeing physical side effects.
