Millions of people are under immense loads of stress. Despite all of the technological advances designed to make life easier, it also make us believe that we can take on even more, which results in a greater amount of stress. In some situations, people begin suffering from physical and mental symptoms related to this immense stress.

As part of the process of relieving stress, you must begin to find strategies for stress relief. However, attempting to make your life fully stress free, you may actually do yourself more bad than good. In your search for stress relief, there are a few strategies that you should avoid including:

  • Attempting to make your life completely stress-free.
  • Focusing on every event of life and reminding yourself to relax.
  • Regularly avoiding the feeling of emotions.
  • Exercise and long vacations to get away from stress may work short-term versus long-term.

The type of stress relief strategy that does work is a combination of gradually making change in your life. The best stress relief strategy is to not try and completely eliminate all of your stress at once. Instead, you must begin making gradual changes through changing habits and gradually working in stress relief strategies that do work.

There are some regular practices that you can add to your life that do have long-term changes. These include:

  • Yoga
  • Tai Chi
  • Meditation
  • Dancing
  • Conscious Breathing Routines

In addition to adding one of these practices to your life, you can also add some of the following tips to your life gradually by incorporating them at a slow pace. These include:

  • Include enjoyable activities in your life whenever possible.
  • Walk, work and eat at a relaxed place.
  • Take a short break after eating meals to help you relax.
  • Go outside at least once a day to notice simple things.
  • Breathe deeply and gently to stretch and relax any tense areas.
  • If you notice your mind racing or if you are worrying, practice breathing techniques.
  • Take breaks during the workday to relax.
  • Wear comfortable clothing whenever you can.
  • Avoid holding feelings in all day.

Some people find themselves falling back into excessive stress habits on occasion. This is perfectly normal when dealing with stress. Try to simply notice the change and then gradually work back into to stress relief strategies that you know works. When you gradually work in your stress relief strategies, you will be able take greater control over stress and stressful situations and learn to approach them in a calmer manner so that they do not have as much of an impact on your health.
